Integrated Art at Byline
Art that Reflects its Environment
Art enhances our everyday experience and invites us to reexamine moments, places, and experiences that we may take for granted. The commissioned art found at Byline was created by local artists inspired by the Pacific Northwest – the landscape, its rich history, and those who call it home.
Untitled Glass Installation
Andy Paiko
Materials: Blown glass, cylindrical drums. 8’ x ~45’
Location: Byline Lobby Ceiling
Install Date: 10/17/25
Inspired by the rotary press and the large reams of newsprint, Paiko’s glass installation draws site-specific inspiration from the printing presses that used to be housed on the site of the former Oregonian printing press. This hand-blown glass installation features over 500 individual pieces suspended from the ceiling, paying homage to the history of the neighborhood. Andy Paiko is an internationally celebrated Oregon-based glass artist whose work explores the mechanisms of functionality and work through the medium of expertly crafted glass. Set to be installed in 2025, the Byline Lobby will host Paiko’s largest work to date.
Swaying Grace
Wynia Lang: Concept & Design
Kim David Hall: Prototyping & Mechanical Design
Materials: Blown glass, cylindrical drums. 8’ x ~45’
Location: North Plaza
Install Date: 9/1/25
“Swaying Grace” is a site-specific kinetic sculpture composed of nine slender steel reeds, soaring up to over 27 feet into the air. The work draws inspiration from the plant life and native grasses that flourish along Pacific Northwest waterways—particularly those that once lined the path of Tanner Creek, which now flows deep beneath the Goose Hollow neighborhood.
The sculpture reimagines those grasses in motion: pivoting leafy blades evoke a poetic dance, animated by the wind. The gentle sway of each element invites viewers to reconnect with the rhythms of the natural world, echoing the quiet beauty and resilience of native ecosystems.
Reflecting the grace and dynamism of nature, Swaying Grace offers a striking counterpoint to the surrounding urban environment. Its presence will serve as a defining landmark—inviting reflection, curiosity, and connection—for generations to come.
